With more European countries harnessing their hydropower resources to stabilize their transmission grids and support greater alternative energy production, GE Energy’s (NYSE: GE) Power Conversion business today announced it will supply its advanced power conversion technology to Voith for the new Frades II pumped-storage hydropower plant. The facility is being built on the left bank of the Cávado River in the Braga region of northern Portugal.
GE Energy Power Conversion business was the successful tenderer for the supply of the major elements of power, control and automation equipment in the mid-life upgrade of a Morris container handling ship-to-shore crane at the port of Felixstowe. Strategically located in south east England, Felixstowe is the United Kingdom’s largest container port and is among the largest in Europe.
Building on a commitment to provide enhanced levels of responsiveness and support for customers in Australia, power conversion specialist Converteam, a GE Energy (NYSE: GE) business, today celebrated the opening of its new commercial and technical support office in Sydney.
Converteam has announced that it has been selected for the development of a number of testing facilities for the rapidly expanding global wind industry.
The state of the art facilities are under development by customers worldwide.
In the UK Converteam has been contracted as technical leader for a wind turbine testing centre in Blyth at the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec), the UK’s leading centre for advancing the development and integration of renewable energy through technology-led innovation.
